Cook named principal at Garner Magnet High School

On Tuesday, the county school board named Drew Cook as the new principal of Garner Magnet High School, says  chair Rosa Gill. The announcement comes more than a month after the school’s previous principal Michael Holton resigned, citing health issues.

Gill says board members relied on the recommendation of area superintendent Lloyd Gardner in approving Cook’s hiring.

“We didn’t get any information on the other candidates. We were told that he was the administration’s choice,” Gill said.

Since the resignation, Cook has served as interim principal at Garner, she said. He is also an alum of the school.

Note: An earlier version of this report incorrectly said that the school board approved Cook’s hire today. The board voted Tuesday evening.
