N.C. transportation stimulus lags behind other states

Despite its rapid growth and high unemployment rate, North Carolina lags behind most states nationwide in the stimulus money it is receiving per person for transportation, reports the News and Observer.

The town of Garner hopes some of the more than $800 million going to the state for roads and transit will help keep projects like the Timber Drive East extension on schedule.

Before the downturn, the roadway was scheduled to be let in September 2009 and to open by 2011.
